Goondiwindi Bridge Weekend

Bridge in Goondiwindi is set to become even more popular following a weekend of lessons with Joan Butts. Making her second visit here, she offered the latest tricks and techniques to 40 bridge enthusiasts from as far away as Warialda. “It’s always a pleasure to come out to Gundy. Everyone’s so keen and welcoming. And the standard of play is getting better and better,” Joan said. Many of those taking advantage of her expertise at the Memorial Club were beginners.  “It’s important that they learn the latest so that they can hold their own with visitors and when they play at other clubs and congresses. “Bridge is one of Australia’s fastest-growing pastimes for people of all ages.” “And it helps keep the mind sharp and active.” The oldest of those at the weekend sessions was “almost 90” and several were in their eighties. “They’re as sharp as tacks and I put that down to the mental stimulation they get from the game,” Joan said.  “It doesn’t matter how old you are, you never stop learning.”
