Getting started with bridge online
There is nothing to install on your computer. Simply click the Play Now! button and after a few moments the game will load. From the main menu of the game there are a number of options including playing bridge against the computer, competition hands to compare your scores with others, bridge lessons, a bridge forum to ask questions about hands you have played – plus the option of playing live with other players once you get confident. There is also a short cut to Joan’s lesson material on the main menu.
There are players from all over the world on the site. In order to cater for everyone there is a settings button on the main menu which takes you to a page where you can choose your bidding system and change the screen display.
Playing a hand of bridge on the computer
Once you start playing a game you’ll see your hand at the bottom of the screen. You’re always in the South position to start. Select your bid from the bidding pad at the bottom of the screen and click on a card when it’s your turn to play. The Auction and last trick review will appear on the left of the screen. Deal or redeal when you have finished a hand. There are a number of other options which you can fiddle with once you get the hang of things.
How to get to Joan’s lessons on the game
From the main menu of the game, you’ll see a button called “Joan’s page”. This is a short cut to Joan’s lessons and there you’ll find the practice hands from “Workbook for Beginners” and a lot more of Joan’s material. Select a hand from any chapter and you can play the hands. You will always be South on the online game, so the hands from the book may be rotated for that reason.
