Lesson 6: Responder's Rebid

When it’s time for responder to make their second bid, enough information has usually been exchanged for them to make an accurate decision about the contract. Responder is often called the "decider" for this reason. Opener is called the "describer".

• Add your points to opener’s. If the total is less than 25, be happy to play a partscore. With 25 or more points, go to game, in a trump suit or no trumps.

• In deciding on the best contract, responder listens to opener’s description of the hand, via their first and second bid.

Responder’s point ranges are as follows:
Minimum: 6 – 9 points
Medium: 10 – 12 points
Maximum: 13+ points
