The Refresher Series

FOUR WEEK COURSE | FEBRUARY 2024

EVERY WEDNESDAY IN FEBRUARY

NEW LESSON TIME: 7.30PM - 8.30PM AEDT

Our popular new-year Refresher Series is BACK, now at a convenient evening time slot! Join Joan for an intensive recap of all you need to know to make 2024 your most successful bridge year yet.

This course is ideal for a player returning to bridge after an absence, and who wants to revise and brush up on the fundamentals of the game. Opener’s and responder’s bids are covered, as well as defensive considerations, and the times the auction becomes competitive.

Lesson 1 - Opener’s Role
Wednesday, 7 February: 7:30-8:30pm AEDT

Decisions about opening at the one level or higher are covered here. Good hand evaluation is essential, and we’ll cover the things to look out for that make the difference between a “great” and an “ordinary” hand.

Lesson 2: Responder’s Role
Wednesday, 14 February: 7:30-8:30pm AEDT

Giving partner information about your responding hand requires accuracy with point count and shape, e.g. shortages. We will discuss the value of these, and cover balanced and unbalanced hands.

Lesson 3 - Defender’s Role
Wednesday, 21 February: 7:30-8:30pm AEDT

This lesson will look at what defenders are trying to do - work together to beat the contract, if it’s possible. The lead starts the process, and this lesson will help you look deeply into what the lead means.

Lesson 4 - Overcaller’s Role
Wednesday, 28 February: 7:30-8:30pm AEDT

Competitive Bidding is the most exciting part, and you should get in opener’a way if you can, via an overcall or two. You don’t need an opeing hand to do this, but we will discuss the importance of the vulnerability here.
