Upset your opponents bidding, using weak hands with long suits

Four Week Course | Wednesday's in March 2025

In this course, you will learn how to use weak hands with long suits to effectively upset your opponents bidding. The focus will be on preemptive bidding strategies that disrupt the opponents while giving partner the key information to make informed decisions.

By the end of this four week course, you will have a solid understanding of weak two-bids and high level preempts, along with how to respond and defend against them.

LESSON 1: Weak and Multi Two-bids
Wednesday, 5 March

10.00am - 11.00am AEDT

This lesson introduces weak two-bids—preemptive bids at the two-level that show a six-card suit and 6-9 high-card points. We will also touch on multi two’s. You will learn how and when to open them, the impact of vulnerability, and why the emphasis is on suit length rather than points. By the end of the lesson, you will understand how these bids can be used to disrupt opponents while providing valuable information to their partners.

LESSON 2: Responding to Weak and Multi Two-Bids
Wednesday, 12 March

10.00am - 11.00am AEDT

This lesson focuses on how to react when a partner opens with a weak two-bid. We will also touch on multi two’s. You will learn that the response is not about high-card points but rather the fit between the hands. The responder is the decision-maker, and their job is to assess whether to pass, raise, or explore game options. By the end of this lesson, you will have a clear strategy for responding to weak two-bids effectively.

LESSON 3: Coping with Weak and Multi Two-Bids
Wednesday, 19 March

10.00am - 11.00am AEDT

In this lesson, you will explore how weak two-bids impact opponents. We will also touch on multi two’s. You will see how preemptive raises by the opener’s partner can increase the pressure, making it harder for opponents to find the best contract. The lesson will cover common defensive strategies against these bids and how to navigate tricky auctions. By the end, you will understand both how to use weak two-bids aggressively and how to counter them effectively.

LESSON 4: High Level Preempts
Wednesday, 26 March

10.00am - 11.00am AEDT

This final lesson covers high level preempts, where longer suits and greater playing strength are used to push the bidding higher. You will learn the delicate balance between aggressive bidding and ensuring their side doesn’t get caught in a poor contract. The focus will be on evaluating playing strength rather than relying solely on high-card points. By the end of this lesson, you will be confident in using preemptive strategies at different levels to disrupt opponents and communicate effectively with partner.
