Our popular, new-year Bridge Refresher Series is back. Join Joan Butts for an intensive recap of all you need to know to make 2025 your most successful bridge year yet. 

If you haven't played bridge in a while and want to review and brush up on the basics, this course is perfect! We'll discuss the bids of the responder and the opener, along with defensive tactics and what to do when the auction starts to get competitive.

Lesson 1 - Opener’s Role
Thursday, 6 February: 10.00am-11.00am AEDT

Decisions about opening at the one level or higher are covered here. Good hand evaluation is essential, and we’ll cover the things to look out for that make the difference between a “great” and an “ordinary” hand.

Lesson 2: Responder’s Role
Thursday, 13 February: 10.00am-11.00am AEDT

Giving partner information about your responding hand requires accuracy with point count and shape, e.g. shortages. We will discuss the value of these, and cover balanced and unbalanced hands.

Lesson 3 - Defender’s Role
Thursday, 20 February: 10.00am-11.00am AEDT

This lesson will look at what defenders are trying to do - work together to beat the contract, if it’s possible. The lead starts the process, and this lesson will help you look deeply into what the lead means.

Lesson 4 - Overcaller’s Role
Thursday, 27 February: 10.00am-11.00am AEDT

Competitive Bidding is the most exciting part, and you should get in opener’a way if you can, via an overcall or two. You don’t need an opeing hand to do this, but we will discuss the importance of the vulnerability here.
